Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have registered a fresh First Information Report (FIR) against BJP MLA Munirathna and six others, for allegedly planning to murder a former JD(S) Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractor and her husband.
The FIR includes charges of voyeurism, outraging the modesty of a woman, and other offences.
The case, filed on Saturday, invokes multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 149 (unlawful assembly), 384 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
Munirathna was earlier taken into custody on September 14 by the Bengaluru police, with the assistance of Kolar police. According to Kolar Superintendent of Police (SP) B Nikhil, the arrest was in connection with allegations of threatening a BBMP contractor.
The complainant alleged that Munirathna demanded a commission of ?20 lakh for a contract. When the contractor offered ?1 lakh, the MLA reportedly insisted on receiving the full amount.
The BJP MLA, along with three associates, was also booked under IPC sections 37 (cooperation in an offence), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statements leading to public mischief), 385 (extortion), 420 (cheating), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
Munirathna had previously been arrested and released on bail in cases involving harassment and intimidation.
The ongoing allegations add to the legal troubles faced by the MLA, raising serious questions about his conduct and the safety of those associated with him. Further investigations are underway.
