New Delhi: The petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 80 paise per litre for the second straight day on Wednesday.

The petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 97.01 per litre while diesel Rs 88.27 per litre, according to price notification of oil marketing companies.

In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 106.34 per litre while diesel 91.42. In Mumbai, a litre of petrol is available at Rs 111.67 while diesel at Rs 95.85 per litre. In Chennai, petrol costs Rs 102.91 per litre while diesel 92.95 per litre.

After a hiatus of 137 days, the oil marketing companies increased the fuel prices by 80 paise per litre on March 22. Cooking gas prices too were increased.

The fuel prices were not increased for the last over four months presumably due to Assembly elections in the five states in spite of crude oil prices increasing in the international oil market due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Some oil marketing companies had raised the bulk diesel prices by Rs 25 a litre last week. (UNI)
