G C Murmu takes charge as CAG of India

New Delhi:Mr G C Murmu on Saturday took charge as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.Mr Murmu took charge as the new CAG after President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office and secrecy to him as the  fourteenth CAG chief  at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. 
Mr Murmu had stepped down as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week after which BJP leader and former MoS Manoj Sinha was appointed the LG of the Union Territory. He  succeeds Rajiv Mehrishi, a 1978-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, who completed his term on August 7.
 
After being administered oath as the new CAG, Mr Murmu went to the CAG headquarters and took charge. At the CAG headquarters,  the new CAG paid tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and founder of the Constitution Bhimrao Ambedkar.
 
 A 1985 batch bureaucrat, Mr Murmu was appointed the first Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory on  October 31 last year. He resigned from this post on  August 5.(UNI)
