Good news! Soon there will be sainik schools for girls

New Delhi: Entry of girls in National Defence Academy (NDA) and Sainik Schools is under consideration of the Government, the Lok Sabha was informed today. There are at present 26 Sainik Schools in the Country and there is a demand of opening of more schools in the country, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said while replying to a supplementary during Question Hour. 'There are as many as 26 Sainik Schools covering 22 States,' he said.
 

He said the Defence Ministry was providing financial support to all Sainik schools in the country. ' Our aim is to increase intake of NDA cadets,' he said. On a question, whether the Government was considering to open Sainik Schools for girls in the country, the Minister said there were suggestions made in this regard in the Parliament's Standing Committee and views of all the State Governments has been sought for their infrastructure. 'This matter of giving admission to girl students in Sainik Schools and NDA is under consideration of the Government,' the Minister said.

Sainik schools were introduced in 1961 with the primary aim of preparing boys academically, physically and mentally for entry into the NDA. (UNI)
