New Delhi: Eighteen Opposition parties, including the Nitish Kumar of Janata Dal(U), Congress, Trinamool and Left parties today decided to field former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi as the Opposition candidate for elections to the post of Vice-President, sources said.
Mr Gandhi's name was mooted by the Trinamool Congress nominee Derek O' Brien and it was endorsed by others immediately including by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, sources said. The JD(U), which had made a departure from Opposition camp for Presidential polls after Nitish Kumar decided to back NDA nominee Ram Nath Kovind, sent senior leader Sharad Yadav for today's meeting.
