Ahmedabad: The BJP will hold a meeting of its legislators tomorrow in Gandhinagar to possibly elect a new leader after the unexpected resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Union Home minister may attend the meeting along with the central observers, state BJP spokesperson Yamal Vyas said.
Rupani's resignation came in as a surprise as he participated in a programme this morning which was virtually addressed by PM Modi.
After Submitting his resignation, the 65 year old BJP leader, who represent Rajkot west assembly constituency, told reporters that he had voluntarily resigned. He thanked PM Modi for giving him the oppourtunity to have a journey of 5 years as CM.
"It is a well known that a BJP keeps changing CMs as per requirement" Rupani Said. Describing it as a speciality of the party that every worker delivers to the fullest." I too will continue to work with the same energy.' He said.
Rupani who served as the chief minister for 5 years had been hand picked by Modi to rule his home state by cutting short the tenure of former CM Ananadi Bai Patel in August 2016. (UNI)
