Hyderabad: As a follow up to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 'Mann ki Baat' address to the Nation on August 27, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan launched the 'Swatchata Hi Sewa' (SHS) campaign at the Raj Bhavan premises here today. While launching the campaign, the Governor gave the call to the two Telugu states to take up the mobilization drive and accelerate ODF progress in villages through construction of twin pit toilets in conjunction with behaviour change activities.

The Governor called upon the local bodies, community organisations, private sector organisations and all other stake holders to contribute to the SHS activities beginning from September 15 and culminating with Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2 to realise the dream of Mahatma Gandhi for a clean India. He said that in order to ensure the hygiene and cleanliness in both the States in particular and the country as a whole, it is necessary to solve the problems of sanitation, access to safe toilet, and ensure proper waste management.

He further emphasised on the objectives of the campaign, which are 'complete elimination of open defecation in every area, eradication of manual scavenging, promotion of reuse and recycling of municipal solid wastes, bring behavioural changes in people regarding hygiene and health, facilitate community organisations and private sector agencies to participate in this mission on a large scale.' Principal Secretary Harpreet Singh, Joint Secretary Arjun Rao, other officers and staff members of Raj Bhavan, actively participated in the cleanliness drive to clear the garbage in the Raj Bhavan campus.
