Former bureaucrat Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday took charge as India's 26th Chief Election Commissioner, succeeding Rajiv Kumar who served in the post for over two years.In a brief message to the citizens, especially the young citizens, the Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar said that they must shoulder the responsibility of voting. He described it as the first step in the service of the nation.

Shri Kumar said that voting is the first step to serve the nation, so the citizens of India who have completed 18 years of age must become voters and vote."The Election Commission was, is and will always be with the voters in accordance with the Constitution of India, the Representation of the People Act, Rules and the instructions issued thereunder.
