Heavy rain lashes out in Delhi results in waterlogging, IMD issues alert

New Delhi: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed Delhi and its adjoining areas on Saturday morning as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alert.Intermittent rain is still continuing in Delhi, causing heavy water logging in several parts of the city.

In its 10:45 weather bulletin, the MET department tweeted, “Thunderstorm with heavy to very heavy intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi (Dera mandi, IGI airport), NCR (Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Gurugram) Rohtak, Gohanam.”

It said “Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of NCR (Noida, Greater Noida) Karnal, Assandh, Safidon, Panipat, Sonipat, Jind, Hansi, Meham, Charkhi Dadri, Kosali, Rewari, Nuh, Jhajjar (Haryana) Kandhla, Baraut, Jattari (UP),”

Last 24-hour period between 830 hrs Friday to 830 hrs Saturday the Safdharjung has recorded 094.4mm rainfall, Palam received 103.0mm, Lodhi Road, 064.0mm, Ridge 067.6mm, Aya Nagar 032.2 mm, from September 10 to September 11, 0830 hrs.

Many parts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have also revived rain on Saturday and are likely to receive more rain the day,

“Kurukshetra (Haryana) Gangoh, Deoband, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Chandpur, Hastinapur, Khatauli, Sakoti Tanda, Daurala, Modinagar, Amroha, Kithor, Garhmukteshwar, Anupshahar, Jahangirabad (U.P.) during next 2 hours,” said the IMD

Earlier this month, Delhi recorded the highest rainfall in September in the past 19 years.
The national capital recorded 112.1 mm rainfall on September 1. Besides, Delhi also saw the highest rainfall in 11 years–1,005.3 mm so far this year.

Meanwhile, the city recorded the minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while the relative humidity at 830 h stood at 100 percent.The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius during the day, said the IMD.(UNI)
