Heavy rain 'washout' Mumbai

Mumbai: All three routes, such as Central, Western and Harbour railway and lifelines of Mumbaikars have halted following heavy downpour since this morning. In three hours, 87 mm rainfall was recorded till 1130 hrs and are expected to continue, said officials from the India meteorological Department (IMD).


Widespread water-logging reported in several parts, including St Pius church area in Mulund, Pratiksha Nagar on Sion, Sahar Police station premises, Khar Jaybharat society and Hindmata junction where water levels seem to be steadily rising. At Gandhi Market at Kings Circle owing to heavy rains, traffic has come to a standstill.

The India meteorological Department has issued a warning of intermittent rains or showers with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in the city and its suburbs. The Even flight schedule was also collapsed, all flights are delayed following heavy rain, sources said. There is an upper air circulation over South Rajasthan and neighbourhood owing to which there is cloudiness over the west coast.

There is also a low-pressure area over south east of Odisha and neighbourhood, sources from IMD said. To meet any eventuality, NDF has sent two teams from Pune in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has appealed to the Mandal to switch off the power in to avoid any untoward incident. The news was spread on social media that 'cloud burst' was occurred in Mumbai, however IMD officials, has denied this. (UNI)
