A court in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the horrific crime of putting chilli powder in his wife's eyes and burning her alive in April 2022.
According to reports, Sachin was addicted to intoxicants and would often beat his wife when she objected to his behavior. His in-laws also supported him in harassing her. The victim, who was 35 at the time of her death, had been married to Sachin since 2012 and had been subjected to torture and harassment by him and his family.
The incident occurred on April 3, 2022, when Sachin put chilli powder in his wife's eyes. After she washed her eyes, Sachin's parents and relatives held her down while he poured diesel on her and set her on fire. She succumbed to her injuries on July 3, 2022, after battling for her life for over three months.
Additional Sessions Judge Anupam Singh has sentenced Sachin to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
