Hyderabad twin bomb blasts case: NIA court convicts two, acquits two

Hyderabad: A special NIA court on Tuesday convicted two and acquitted two others in 2007 Hyderabad twin blast case which killed 42 people and injured 50 others.

 
Amidst tight security, Special NIA court arranged inside Cherlapally jail, convicted--Aneeq Shafique Sayeed, Akabar Ismail Choudhary and acquitted--Mohammed Sadiq, Ansar Ahmed Badhsah Sheikh.
 
The court had deferred the verdict on August 27 for today.However, the quantum of punishment in the verdict will be announced on Monday.
 
The simultaneous twin blasts occurred at Gokul chat eatery in Koti and the laser show auditorium at Lumbini Park, a few metres from the state secretariat, on August 25, 2007.
 
The four men were arrested by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad in October 2008 and later taken into custody by Gujarat Police. They are lodged in Cherlapalli Central Prison.The counter-intelligence (CI) wing of Telangana Police filed three chargesheets against the accused.
 
In August 2013, the second Metropolitan Sessions Judge's court framed the charges against the four accused ? all alleged "Indian Mujahidden" operatives.
 
They were charged under Section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and sections of the Explosive Substances Act in connection with the blasts on August 25, 2007, and also with regard to an unexploded bomb found under a foot-over bridge in Dilsuknagar.
 
The trial against the four accused was moved to a courtroom inside Cherlapalli Central Prison in Hyderabad from a courtroom at Nampally court complex in June.
 
Nearly 170 witnesses were examined and cross-examined during the trial.Final arguments and counter arguments from both sides concluded in the special court inside Cherlapally Central Prison on August 7.
 
Adequate security arrangements have made at Cherlapally Central prison and at all sensitive places in Hyderabad in anticipation of the court verdict.(UNI)
