Mumbai: After withdrawing the petition from the Bombay High Court, Aman Khatri, an IIT Mumbai student, has filed a plea before a special SC-ST court seeking discharge in an abetment- to-suicide case of his batch mate Darshan Solanki, who died on February 12, 2023 after jumping from the seventh-floor of his hostel building in Powai area of Mumbai suburb.

On April 9, 2023, police arrested Khatri in the case after a note was found in the room of Solanki who was a student of chemical engineering.

Earlier Khatri had approached the Bombay High Court for quashing of the case, citing several irregularities in the case, and that he had nothing to do with Solanki’s suicide.

Further, he claimed that the alleged suicide note stating that "Arman has killed me" cannot be the basis to prosecute him as the same was recovered around 20 days after the incident from the room, which was not even sealed.

The note seems to have been planted with mala fide intentions, Khatri had pleaded in his petition seeking to quash the case.

The high court during the hearing observed that since the case is at a trial stage, hence they cannot pass any order following which Khatri withdraw the plea and approach the SC/ST court seeking relief while mentioning the same points which were argued before the high court.

The special court directed the prosecution to file a reply to the plea.
