IMD predicts dense fog over North and Central India for next 4 days

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted dense to very dense fog conditions over Northern, Central and Eastern parts of the country for the next 3-4 days.

According to IMD, “Dense to very Dense fog conditions very likely to prevail during night and early morning hours in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh till tomorrow and over Rajasthan on 12th of January.”

“Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on January 11th & 12th,” the IMD said.

The weather department further mentioned that in association with the Western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds, wet spell likely over Northwest India during 10th to 12th January.

“Thunderstorm activity at isolated places likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on 11th January. Isolated hailstorm also likely over south Haryana & Rajasthan on 11th January,” the IMD said.

It also forecasts coldwave conditions in isolated pockets over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on 09th and 10th of January.

A rise in minimum temperatures by 2–4°C over northwest and central India is expected during the next 3–4 days, followed by a gradual fall of 2–3°C thereafter, the IMD said.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over east India during the next two days, followed by a gradual rise of 2–4°C thereafter, it added.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal on the 9th and 10th of January and the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Comorin area on the 9th, 11th, and 12th of January.
