Mumbai: Mumbai is set for a rainy start to June, with meteorologists anticipating frequent light to moderate showers throughout the week.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the city and its surrounding areas will continue to see periodic rainfall following the early arrival of the southwest monsoon.
After a vigorous onset last Monday, which brought heavy rains to many neighbourhoods, precipitation has become more sporadic but remains a daily feature for residents. On Sunday, several suburbs—including Mankhurd, Vikhroli, and Mulund—registered notable rainfall, while other parts of the city experienced brief but intense downpours.
Forecasts for the next two days suggest a mix of cloudy skies and scattered rain showers, occasionally accompanied by gusty winds. Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at 33°C, with nighttime lows around 26°C.
Despite the absence of severe weather alerts for Mumbai and most neighbouring districts, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Thane on June 5, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Looking ahead, the IMD’s seasonal outlook points to a robust monsoon, with rainfall across Maharashtra—including Mumbai, Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha—projected to exceed historical averages. The Konkan region, which typically receives nearly 2,900 mm of rain during the monsoon, is expected to see totals surpassing this benchmark.
Officials are advising citizens to prepare for wet commutes and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas, as the city embraces what could be an unusually rainy June.
