India’s economy clocked its fastest growth in a year and a half, registering an impressive 8.2% GDP expansion in the July–September quarter, according to official data released on Friday. The surge comes as manufacturing output jumped sharply, driven by expectations of stronger consumer demand following the GST rate cut.
The Q2 GDP growth outpaced the 7.8% expansion recorded in the previous quarter and was significantly higher than the 5.6% growth seen during the same period last year.
Manufacturing — which accounts for nearly 14% of India’s GDP — recorded a robust 9.1% growth in the second quarter, up dramatically from 2.2% in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
