Thiruvananthapuram: About 50 delegates from Russia are attending the 'Indo-Russian Conclave on Ayurveda, Yoga and Wellness' at the Indimasi Ayurveda Healing Village at Vattappara here on Sunday.
The Conclave is aimed at paving the way for promoting Ayurveda and Yoga in international platforms.
The event is being jointly organised by the Ayurveda, Yoga and Wellness Association (AYWA), the Metro Mart and the Citrine Hospitalities.
Russia occupies the 10th position in the international tourist arrival to India. More than three lakh Russian tourists arrived in India in 2019.
Recently, apart from Goa and the golden triangle, Russians started traveling to South India more. Beaches, backwaters, and Ayurveda are the major factors that attract tourists from Russia.
Tourism Departments of the states and private industry entrepreneurs participate in the major travel and tourism fairs held in Russia.
Moreover, many hotels in India have websites in Russian.
Kerala was a favourite destination for Russian tourists even during the Soviet time. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from different parts of the USSR visited Kovalam through various government agencies.
"Kerala has become their favourite destination thanks to the marketing strategy of the tourism department and the participation of both government and private organisations in the leading travel marts in Russia," its organisers said.
"The websites of all major resorts are available in the Russian language. In addition, Ayurveda attracts a good percentage of tourists from Russia." (UNI)
