Amid the uproar over data privacy, the ban over social media sites Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is on the cards. The information and broadcasting ministry ordered these platforms to adhere to the rule within 3 months with 25th May as the deadline.
Notably, the central government directed these social media websites to regulate the content within 3 months. Besides the centre also directed to appoint compliance and the nodal officer who will be performing duties in India.

The government orders also included grievance redressal, the vigilance of inappropriate content, compliance report and removal of inappropriate content. A new committee will also be formed which will include members from defense, home, information and broadcasting, IT, and Women and child development ministry.
