IT raids at D K Shivakumar residences, resort where Gujarat congress MLAs are guest

Bengaluru: Income Tax department today raided Karnataka Energy Minister D K Shivkumar's residence and a resort where he is playing host to Congress MLAs from Gujarat ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state on August 8. The IT officials are carrying out raids at the room in which he is staying in the resort, besides his residences here, New Delhi and in two other places. The Income Tax directorate, in a statement here, said that the timing of the search was decided well in advance.
 

The event involving certain MLAs of another state being brought to Karnataka were unforeseen and unpredictable events. It said the search was in continuation of an investigation which was in progress for a considerable period of time. The department said that it was not concerned with the stay of MLAs from the other state in the resort and was also not in contact with them. The raids, which began around 0700 hrs, were continuing.
