J-K Encounter: Two militants killed in Shopian district

Srinagar: Two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Sunday, a police spokesperson said.

On a credible information about the presence of militants in village Reeban, Zainpora in south Kashmir district of Shopian early this morning, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation, he told UNI.

When the area was being sealed, the militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, which was retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.

The spokesperson said two militants were killed in the encounter and their bodies were recovered.

However, the identity of the militants was being ascertained.

Arms and ammunition have also been recovered.

He said people are requested not to go near the encounter site which could prove dangerous. (UNI)
