New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar was on Thursday administered the oath of office as the 14th Vice President of India by President Droupadi Murmu at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
In the elections which took place on August 6, the former West Bengal Governor defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva by a huge margin.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind, former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and leaders of various political parties.
Dhankhar will also preside over the Rajya Sabha as the ex-officio Chairman.
Ahead of the swearing in ceremony, Dhankhar visited Raj Ghat to pay respects to Mahatma Gandhi.
"Felt blessed, inspired and motivated to be ever in service of Bharat in serene sublimity of Raj Ghat while paying respects to Pujya Bapu," he said in a tweet. (UNI)
