Jammu: 3 terrorist killed, jawan injured in encounter near Nagrota toll plaza

Jammu: Three terrorists were killed and a jawan injured on Friday when militants opened fire at a police team at toll plaza in Nagrota on the city outskirts.

“A group of 3-4 terrorists was on their way to Srinagar when they were intercepted by the police team at the toll plaza. They were a newly infiltrated group and were on their way to Srinagar,” J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh said.

While one militant was gunned down immediately, others managed to flee to the adjacent forest area, following which a massive search operation was launched to track down the militants, he added.

Three terrorists were neutralised and one is more in forest area, the DGP said.

"It is suspected that they infiltrated from Kathua, Hiranagar border,” he said.

“Large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered”, the DGP added.

The driver of the truck, identified as Mohammad Maqbool Wani of Anantnag has been arrested.

District Magistrate Udhampur has ordered that as a precautionary measure, all schools in Udhampur town/ Tikri/Mand/National Highway-zones/Chenani area shall remain closed for the day.

Also classroom work in Degree College Boys/Girls Udhampur shall also be suspended.

Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has also been stopped as precautionary measure till further orders following which there is a rush of stranded vehicles on the highway.

After the 2018 Sunjuwan attack, this is the second major attack in Nagrota. (UNI)
