Mumbai: Akash Ambani, son of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, launched the new Apple devices - iPhone 8 and 8 Plus - on Friday noon in the telco’s headquarters in Navi Mumbai. "This partnership between Apple and Jio brings two companies… that have revolutionised their respective industries… because we both think customer first," said the Ambani scion who is on the board of new telecom entrant Reliance Jio Infocomm.
Chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani and Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook addressed via video messages. Cook spoke about the partnership with India's newest telco and the customisation that the latest devices from stables of Apple have for India. "We’ve added new keyboards for India so we now support 11 local languages, and iPhone now takes dictation in Hindi. We’re excited to be building so many new relationships in India, including tens of thousands of developers across the country now writing apps for iOS," the CEO added.
The newly launched phones from the stables of Apple will be available for purchase from Friday onwards at a starting price of Rs 64,000. "We are going to provide deep integration of Apple’s entire gamut of services on Jio’s network, so that it provides superlative customer experience," said Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries in his video message. "Jio in association with Reliance Digital will continue to provide path-breaking and customer-friendly deals that will make the desirable iPhone 8 affordable for millions of Indians," he added.
The partnership may also bring in more alliances. "Over the next few months you will see amazing initiatives by both companies….Such as MAC LABS in the education sector and new product launches like iPhone 10 for the Indian consumer," said Akash Ambani. Apple has widened its horizon for partnerships with new telco entrant Jio, and its sister arm Reliance Retail and the latest iPhones will come with assured buyback if people buying the handsets take up Jio connections of Rs 799 a month.
