Jammu: A police officer of Director General rank was found murdered under suspicious circumstances late on Monday night in Udheywala area here. Terror outfit People's Anti-Fascist Force (PAFF) has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Police sources said that the officer, identified as Hemant Kumar Lohia, DGP Prisons, was found dead under mysterious circumstances reportedly at his friend’s house in Udheywala, Gajansoo area.
"We have recovered the body and have registered a case while the investigation is under process," they said.
"Slit and burn injuries were also reported on the body and initially it appears to be a murder but we are on job," police sources added.
Additional Director General of Police Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said that dead body of Hemant Lohia DG Prisons J&K found under suspicious circumstances.
First Examination of the scene of crime reveals this as a suspected murder case, said Singh.
He said that the domestic help with the officer is absconding. A search for him has started. Forensic teams and crime teams are on spot. Investigation process has begun, he said.
"Sl Senior officers are on spot. J&K police family express grief and deep sorrow over the death of their senior officer," he said.
Lohia, who was appointed Commandant General, Home Guard/Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force after he was repatriated to Jammu and Kashmir from deputation and in August this year, he was appointed as DG Prisons. (UNI)
