Srinagar: Three suspected militants were killed in a gun battle in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, officials said.

They said a cordon-and-search operation was launched by the joint forces in Shukru Kellar following an input about militant presence.

“As the combing was underway, hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gun battle. In the operation three terrorists have been killed ,” they said.

The identity and the group affiliation of the slain could not be established immediately.
J&K Police has not given any official statement on the gun battle so far.

Meanwhile, posters featuring the three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack on tourists have been pasted in several districts of south Kashmir. The posters announce a reward for anyone who provides information leading to their arrest. The attackers remain at large.
