New Delhi: Supreme Court Judge Justice Indira Banerjee on Friday recused herself from hearing a plea seeking a CBI or Special Investigation Team inquiry into the incidents of West Bengal post poll violence.
A division bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah was hearing a joint petition filed by family members of BJP activists Abhijit Sarkar and Haran Adhikari, who were killed, allegedly in the violence following the Assembly polls in May.

'I have some difficulty in hearing this matter,' Justice Indira, who hails from West Bengal, was quoted as saying by Live Law.

After Justice Indira expressed reservations, the matter was adjourned. The registry was directed to list the matter before a bench where Justice Banerjee is not there.

Earlier, the petitioners alleged 'total inaction' and even 'subversion' of the investigation by the State administration and police, to which the State government replied that FIRs had been registered and several arrests made in connection with the murders.(UNI)
