Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra expressed severe objection on Thursday over the manner in which Chhattisgarh Police arrested godman Kalicharan Maharaj in Khajuraho.
“The Congress government in Chhattisgarh ought not to have violated interstate protocol. I have directed the Madhya Pradesh Director General of Police to forthwith discuss the matter with his Chhattisgarh counterpart and register a protest. The arrest was executed without prior intimation. The Chhattisgarh dispensation could have summoned the accused through issuance of a notice,” he told the press here.
Kalicharan was placed under arrest in Khajuraho by a special team of Chhattisgarh Police, from Raipur, on the charge of making a derogatory remark against Father of the Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
During a recent programme, Kalicharan made the objectionable comment on stage against Mahatma Gandhi and expressed support for the latter’s assassin Nathuram Vinayak Godse. (Inputs from UNI)
