Amritsar: Actor and newly elected MP Kangana Ranaut's comment that terrorism is "increasing in Punjab" is an "expression of her sick mentality", SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said on Thursday, demanding an in-depth probe into an incident involving her in Chandigarh airport.

Dhami said Ranaut's continuous targeting of Punjab and Punjabis is "extremely unfortunate and painful".

He said Ranaut's hateful comments after the argument with a security personnel of CISF at the Chandigarh airport is an expression of her "anti-Punjab mentality".

"Ranaut saying that terrorism is increasing in Punjab is an expression of her sick mentality, while the truth is that the terrorism being spread through her own tongue is polluting the atmosphere of the country," said Dhami.

Dhami said Ranaut should never forget that if the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual culture of the country is alive today, it is because of the sacrifices made by Punjabis for the country. He said it is not good for the country to ignore the mutual harmony and social relations of its people just to be popular by forgetting the history.

But Ranaut is "deliberately walking" on this path. He appealed to the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party to "teach Kangana Ranaut a lesson of self-control and moral values".

He also demanded that there should be an in-depth investigation into the causes of the incident at the Chandigarh airport to see if Ranaut made any "mischievous argument".

He said the investigation conducted by the CISF should be done without any political or personal influence so that injustice is not done.

Earlier in the day, Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a woman CISF Jawan Kulwinder Kaur at the Chandigarh Airport on Thursday. Kaur was reportedly enraged by Kangana's controversial remarks during the farmers' agitation in 2020.

The BJP MP was on her way to catch a flight UK 707 for New Delhi when the incident occurred at the airport during a security check.

The actor-turned-politician posted a video statement on her X account and confirmed the incident. She said that she was getting calls from the media and her well wishers. "I am safe," she said.

Ranaut said that when she was going for a security check, the CISF jawan slapped her. When she asked her the reason she was told that it was over her anti-farmers remarks.

The Dhakad actor added that she was concerned by the terrorism and extremism on rise in Punjab and said it needed to be addressed.

Later, in a video on social media, the CISF jawan said: "Isne bayaan diyaa tha na ki 100-100 rupaye mein baithti hain vahan pe, 'meri maa baithi thi' jab isne bayaan diya tha (Hadn't she remarked that the protesters were sitting for Rs 100? My mother was sitting there."

Ranaut's reported remarks were in context of women sitting at the Delhi borders during farmers' agitation over the passing of three controversial farm laws in 2020-21. The laws were later withdrawn.
