Bengaluru: Amid a controversy surrounding Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna's alleged involvement in an 'obscene videos' case, Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa has refuted claims made by party leader Devaraje Gowda regarding the receipt of a letter concerning the videos.

Taking to his official X handle, Vijayendra dismissed Devaraje Gowda's assertion, stating, "Lawyer Devaraje Gowda’s claim of sending me a letter on the videos is patently false. No such letter has reached me nor did I have any knowledge of the videos."

He further alleged that Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar had prior knowledge of the videos but chose to disclose them closer to the elections, raising questions about the timing and motive behind the revelation.

"Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiva Kumar has admitted to knowing about the videos for months but waited to get closer to the elections to make them public. If he had known about the videos, why didn’t the Congress government order investigations immediately? Why wait till the elections?" he questioned.

Repeating Amit Shah's claims in Guwahati just the other day, Vijayendra said, "And, why take to the streets now when it is your government in the state and you have the power to order an investigation and take action? Why this drama? The Congress government must answer to the people."

Earlier, Devaraje Gowda had claimed to have written a letter to Vijayendra regarding the alleged obscene videos involving Prajwal. However, Vijayendra denies receiving any such communication.

Meanwhile, Prajwal has been suspended from the JDS following allegations and an SIT probe is underway into the 'obscene videos' case. The decision was taken during the party's core committee meeting in Hubballi, recommending Prajwal's suspension amid the investigation.

Prajwal, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson, faces charges under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC in connection with the case, which involves allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman.

The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
Led by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh, the SIT, which includes DG CID Suman D Pennekar and IPS officer Seema Latkar, has initiated investigations into the alleged obscene video case involving Prajwal.
