Srinagar: Kashmir University today staged a protest against the summoning and questioning of a research scholar by National Investigation Agency in connection with terror funding case. Hundreds of students of the university boycotted their classes to lodge their protest against the summoning of Aala Fazili by the NIA,who was questioned by the intelligence agency at New Delhi yesterday, alongwith Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation president Mohammad Yaseen Khan. Raising slogans against the agency, the students who assembled outside Humanities block and marched within the campus.
The NIA has registered a formal FIR on May 30 to probe alleged funding from abroad, including Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to sponsor militancy and stone pelting in the Valley. So far the NIA has arrested 10 separatists and businessmen so far in connection with its probe. Those arrested included Altaf Ahmed Shah, the son-in-law of separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, and prominent businessman Zahoor Watali, besides spokesmen of both the factions of separatist oufit and a photo journalist.
