Kejriwal Govt’s vaccination programme reaches a new milestone as 1 crore doses of COVID vaccines get administered in Delhi

Kejriwal Govt’s vaccination programme reaches a new milestone as 1 crore doses of COVID vaccines get administered in Delhi
, Saturday, 31 July 2021 (22:26 IST)
New Delhi:Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that over 1 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Delhi. The CM informed that 74 lac people, i.e., almost 50% of the 18+ population of the state had been vaccinated with at least one dose and 26 lac people had received both their doses since the start of the vaccination drive. He also stressed upon the fact that Delhi has the capacity to administer 3 lac doses a day but is unable to do so because of the lack of vaccine stocks. The state has been vaccinating the maximum number of people it can each day as per the stocks it is receiving.

Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi’s vaccination programme has achieved an important milestone. Today we have reached the 1 crore mark, we have administered over 1 crore doses in Delhi since the start of the vaccination drive. Among this, a total of about 74 lac people have been vaccinated, out of which 26 lac people have received both doses of vaccination. Roughly, 2 crore people live in Delhi, of which 1.5 crores are 18+ and thus eligible for getting the vaccine. So about 50% of the population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

“As per the stock of doses we are receiving, our doctors, our nurses and healthcare workers are putting in their best throughout the day and night to vaccinate the people of the city. The people of Delhi as well are very enthusiastic about getting vaccinated and are coming forward to get their shots,” he added.

“At this juncture, I want to congratulate all the people who have been involved in Delhi’s vaccination programme. I am extremely thankful towards them for the dedication they have shown for this cause,” the CM said thanking the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and all other officials who have been involved in Delhi’s vaccination drive.

Talking about the lack of vaccines as the state is not being supplied with sufficient stocks, he said, “we are unable to scale up the programme due to a lack of vaccines. At present we administer 50 to 70 thousand doses each day because there’s a huge lack of vaccines. If we can get sufficient stocks, we possess the infrastructure and setup to administer 3 lac vaccine doses a day. But we are unable to do so because we do not have enough vaccines. We are in constant touch with the central government, and I hope that Delhi, along with other states of the country, will soon start receiving adequate stocks from the centre.”

“We are vaccinating as many people as we can as per our stocks, but today I am delighted that we have been able to administer 1 crore doses. If you have not been vaccinated yet, please get your shot administered at your nearest vaccination centre. We have two challenges ahead of us, first, to vaccinate those who have not received a single dose and second, to vaccinate those who have received only one shot but request everyone to please get vaccinated,” he further added.
