Palakkad: A 50- year-old man died, after idli got stuck in his throat in between an idli eating competition organised by a group of youth as part of Onam eve celebration at Alamaram near Pudussery in the district, on Saturday.
According to police, the deceased was identified as B Suresh (50), a tipper truck driver of Alamaram near Pudussery in the district.
The incident took place in the evening, Suresh tried to gobble down three idlis together during the eating competition among other participants, but suddenly he showed signs of struggling to breathe and fell down to the ground.
His friends took him to a nearby private hospital and gave first aid, then shifted him to a hospital at Walayar, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Police registered a case for unnatural death, and the body was shifted to the district hospital for a postmortem.
