Kerala: About 154 injured as firecracker explodes during Theyyam festival at Anjootambalam Veererkavu temple (VIDEO)

Kasaragod: About 154 people sustained burn injuries in a massive explosion at a fireworks storage area during the annual Theyyam festival at the Anjootambalam Veererkavu Temple in Nileshwar in the early hours of Tuesday.
 
Firecrackers stored for the festival exploded, injuring many, Kasaragod Collector Inbasekar K said.

Out of the 154 persons, 97, including women and children, were admitted to hospitals, with 8 suffering more than 80 percent burn injuries, he added.
 
Sources said 16 people were admitted in Kanhangad District Hospital, 10 people at Mavungal Sanjeevani Hospital, 10 at Pariaram Medical College Hospital in Kannur, and 17 at Kanhangad Aishal Hospital, 3 at Kanhangad Arimala Hospital, 18 at Mims Hospital Kannur, 18 at Mangalore AJ Medical College, and others at various hospitals in Kasaragod district.
