Malappuram: A 62-year-old woman was hacked to death in an attack by her son in their house at Kavappura in Ponmundam panchayat of this district on Friday.
According to police, the deceased was identified as N Amina (62), wife of Abu of Kavappura. Kalpakanchery police took custody of her son Musammail in this connection from their house, following the alert of the local residents.
The incident took place around 0700 hrs, allegedly following an altercation between the mother and son. Musammil attacked her mother with a long knife and later smashed the victim's head with a gas cylinder. She died on the spot.
Police said Musammil, who was a mentally ailing person and taking medicine for it. Amina, Abu, and Musammil were residing in the same house, and the incident occurred when Abu went outside for work on a shop.
Further investigation was going on under the Taanur DySP-led police team.
