Thiruvananthapuram: The identities of a family, part of an Islamic State group which surrendered in Afghanistan were confirmed by their relatives in Kerala.
Hailing from Aattukal in this city, Ms Bindu Sampath, mother of 29-year-old Nimisha (Fathima) who went to Syria along with her husband Bexin Vincent and their child, had identified them from the photographs provided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as part of verification.
Ms Bindu Sampath, while speaking to newspersons, confirmed this here on Thursday that she was contacted by the NIA for the verification. The identity of the family was confirmed by the Bexin's family also, she added.
Nimisha and her husband fled to Syria to join the Islamic State when she was pregnant in 2016. However, the NIA is yet to confirm the verification, sources in Kerala Police said.
Earlier, Bindu Sampath had alleged that her daughter was converted to Islam as part of 'love jihad' and left Kerala under the pretext of going to Sri Lanka for religious studies.
The surrendered group of IS fighters are now in the custody of Afghanistan law enforcement in Khorasan province.(UNI)
