Kuki militants attack farmers in Manipur, woman dead

A woman was killed when heavily armed suspected Kuki militants fired towards farmers mostly women who were working in an agricultural field at Saiton, Bishenpur district on Saturday.The exact cause of the death was not known and the body was lying in the area for a long time.All the farmers were safely evacuated by a team of state, BSF, and local volunteers to a safe area.Due to the heavy firing, the combined force took some time to retrieve the body.

The farmers said the firing from Churachandpur district had stopped for some time after the killing of a man by Kuki terrorists at the residence of a former Chief Minister two months ago at Moirang a few KM away from the place of occurrence Saturday.Security was assured by the government and security agencies to the farmers, they said. Meanwhile, a combined force has started investigating the matter.(UNI)<>
