Kochi: Despite getting bail in the sedition case, Ayesha Sultana has received a setback from the Kerala High court. The court has denied staying the proceedings in the sedition case filed against the native filmmaker of Lakshadweep.
The court observed that the investigation is at the preliminary stage and to culminate the probe more time will be required.
Sulthana was booked on June 10 on sedition charges following a complaint by a BJP leader that she spread false news about the spread of Covid-19 in the union territory during a debate in a Malayalam TV channel.
In his complaint, Lakshadweep BJP unit president alleged that Sultana's was an anti-national act which tarnished the 'patriotic image' of the central government.
However, Sultana reacted to this and said she was booked on sedition charges for protesting against the anti-people reforms by Administrator Praful Patel in the island.
