Lalu Prasad Yadav gets 3.5 years of Jail,5 Lakh rs fine in fodder scam

Patna: A Special CBI court on Saturday awarded three and a half years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs five lakh on former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad in a case related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.4 crore from the Deoghar treasury.

The court of special CBI judge Shivpal Singh announced the punishment to Mr Yadav under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) 420 (cheating, dishonestly), 467 (forgery), 471 (forged record) and 477 (A) (falsification) of the Indian Penal Code. The court imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh under Sections 13 (2) (prevention of corruption) read with Sec 13 (1) (c) (d). Failing to pay the fine, Mr Yadav would have to undergo further imprisonment of six months, the judgement said.Both the punishments would run simultaneously, the court maintained. 

Earlier, A special CBI court convicted Lalu Prasad in a fodder scam case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.4 lakhs from the Deoghar treasury in the 1992-1994 period. The court of special CBI judge Shivpal Singh convicted Lalu Prasad and 14 others in case number RC64A/96. Ex-Chief Minister of undivided Bihar and Congress veteran Jagannath Mishra was, however, acquitted. The court also acquitted seven others. Lalu Prasad willl remain in Birsa Munda Central Jail located at Hotwar. However, he can visit High court for a bail. (UNI)
