Srinagar: Body of a foreign Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was recovered on Tuesday in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, where life was affected due to strike after protests.A police spokesperson said today that on a specific input on Monday, security forces cordoned off Bon Mollah at Hajan in Bandipora district. While the cordon was being laid, there was exchange of fire between militants and security forces. He said in the search operation, no body was recovered. However, it was learnt that one militant of LeT was injured in the encounter.
He said today, police came to know about the death of the injured militant. Since the body was already in the village, request was made to the villagers to hand it over to the police, he said. However, the body was buried amidst a procession led by some miscreants.
The spokesperson said police is ascertaining the identity of the militant who is understood to be not a local militant. Also, necessary legal action has been initiated against the people who led the protest and instigated public, he added.Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Hajin and adjoining areas with all shops and business establishments remaining closed. Traffic was also off the road. There were protests in the area after the burial of militant, official sources said. (UNI)
