Srinagar: Security forces busted two modules of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) by arresting six militant associates of the group in Kashmir, police said on Thursday.

The modules were busted in the border town of Uri in the Baramulla and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

They said joint forces of Baramulla Police and Army's 16 SIKHLI during joint patrolling and area dominance at Churunda Uri noticed one suspected person who was roaming in the area and tried to flee while noticing the patrolling party.

"He was apprehended tactfully by joint forces. During his personal search, two grenades were recovered from him, and he was taken into custody immediately," a police statement said.

He was later identified as Showkat Ali Awan of Churunda Uri.

Police said during further questioning he revealed the names of his accomplices, Ahmad Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana, both residents of Churunda.

The two were questionable, and upon their disclosure, two grenades, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, and four live rounds were recovered from them, police said.

"The accused are involved in the cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities," police said.

A case under the Indian Arms Act and the UA (P) Act was registered in Police Station Uri, and investigations were taken up in the matter.

In a separate operation, Police and security forces arrested three militant associates linked with the proscribed terror outfit LeT in Budgam and recovered incriminating materials from their possession.

Police, along with the Army's 62 RR, arrested three terrorist associates in the Khansahab area of district Budgam, they said.

They have been identified as Qaisar Ahmad Dar of Kremshora, Tahir Ahmad Dar, and Aqib Rashed Ganie, both residents of Wagar, linked with the proscribed terror outfit LeT, police said.

"Incriminating materials, including one Chinese hand grenade, two magazines, and 57 live rounds, have been recovered from their possession. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation," police said.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Khansahab, and an investigation has been taken up. (UNI)
