A disturbing incident has come to light in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, where a woman was subjected to a virginity test on her wedding night. The court has taken cognizance of this matter and ordered an FIR against the woman's in-laws.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that her in-laws employed inappropriate methods for the virginity test on the night of her wedding, causing her severe mental and physical distress.
The victim, a resident of Banganga area, was married in December 2019 to a man from Bhopal. She alleged harassment by the in-laws from the very first day after the wedding. Her mother-in-law constantly doubted her character. Moreover, the family demanded a dowry of Rs 2 lakh. Soon, the victim conceived, but due to the constant harassment and character assassination, the woman suffered a miscarriage.
Next year, the woman conceived again. But unfortunately, the baby was stillborn. Then, her mother-in-law demanded a DNA test of the baby. She was continually assaulted and harassed time and time again. Meanwhile, the woman got pregnant once again and gave birth to a girl. Disappointed with a girl child, her in-laws then sent the woman back to her maternal home.
The woman finally filed a case at the Indore District and Sessions court on January 18. The Indore District Court also received a confidential investigation report from the Women and Child Development Department following the petition filed by the victim.
The report revealed that the in-laws had employed inappropriate methods to check the victim's virginity on the first night of marriage, which resulted in mental and physical harassment.
