Thane: Three women suffered burn injuries—one of them seriously—after the battery of an electric two-wheeler exploded while charging at a residence in Almas Colony, Kausa, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at around 5:15 pm and sparked a fire that rapidly spread through the home, damaging household items and electrical wiring.

The victims—Nusrat Syed (45), and her daughters Hafza (24) and Afza (18)—were inside their ground-floor apartment when the battery blast occurred.

All three suffered burns to their faces and hands, with Nusrat sustaining burns covering more than 30 per cent of her body. She was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to Wadia Hospital in Mumbai for specialised care.

Firefighters and disaster management personnel responded promptly, bringing the blaze under control and ensuring the safety of other residents.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion, which highlights ongoing safety concerns related to charging electric vehicle batteries in residential settings.
