New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and the Maharashtra government on a plea of a blast accused Col Prasad Purohit, challenging his trial under Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act (UAPA) in connection with the Malegaon blast case. A division bench of the Apex court, headed by Justice R K Agrawal and also comprising Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, served the notice to the NIA and Maharashtra government and directed them to file their detailed replies within four weeks.

"Today we issue notice to the Maharashtra government and the NIA. We will again hear the matter after four weeks," the two-judge bench said. Col Purohit had knocked the doors of the court, after his petition seeking his discharge was dismissed by the Bombay High Court. (UNI)
