Meghalaya election: BJP ahead of Cong in social media

Shillong: With changing of time and digital revolution, the use of social media in recent years has become one of the major tools for political parties during the polls -- to attack their rivals or campaign their poll agenda or to woo the voters.In Meghalaya, which is heading towards the polls on February 27, the use of social media specially twitter so far by the political parties including Congress is at a snail's pace.

In terms of followers till February 8, BJP Meghalaya is much ahead of the Congress party with around 13.9k followers. The official twitter account of Meghalaya Congress has only 1455 followers.The facebook account of BJP also has 3886 followers as compared to Congress' 1712.

The twitter account of Nationalist Congress Party Meghalaya has only 392 followers while on Facebook 1038.In terms of political personalities, the Chief Minister of the ruling Congress government, Mukul Sangma, has huge fan following on Facebook with 126786 followers and on twitter over 68000.On twitter Congress working president of Meghalaya Vincent Pala has 779 followers while BJP state chief Shibun Lyngdoh has only 163 followers.
