Mumbai: More than 100 people were fined across 49 different locations in Mumbai and kabootar khanas ’(feeding points for pigeons) within 10 days after the Maharashtra government announced the closure of these houses, an official said here on Tuesday.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) generated Rs 55,700 by penalising 107 offenders, an official added.
Civic officials further said that each offender was penalised Rs 500 for violating the norms.
According to civic officials, the highest penalty of Rs 7,700 was recovered from 16 individuals at Dadar Kabootarkhana.
They added that 10-kilogram gains in two gunny bags were also confiscated last week.
It may be recalled that earlier matter was raised in the ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra government, during which the state government ordered the BMC to immediately shut it down, citing health hazards arising out of their droppings.
