MoS Railways Suresh Angadi dies of Covid-19, Condolences pour in

New Delhi: Minister of State for Railways Suresh Chennabasappa Angadi on Wednesday became the first union minister to die of Coronavirus complications at AIIMS Hospital here where he was being treated, hospital sources said. 
He was 65. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was found to be Covid positive on September 11 and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS. Sources said that he breathed his last at around 2000 hrs on Wednesday night.
 
He is the first Union minister from Narendra Modi's Cabinet and the second Member of Parliament to succumb to Covid-19 from Karnataka. Earlier, BJP MP from the state Ashok Gasti had passed away also of the virus infection.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal have deeply mourned the death of Mr Angadi.
 
The Railway Minister said on the micro-blogging website, "Deeply anguished at the unfortunate demise of Suresh Angadi ji. He was like my brother. Words fall short to describe his commitment & dedication towards the people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this hour of need. Om Shanti".
 
Suresh graduated from SSS Samiti College of Commerce, Belgaum. He ran his own private business before entering public life. He was sworn in as Minister of State for Railway Accounts in May 2009.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said, "Mr Suresh Angadi was an exceptional Karyakarta, who worked hard to make the Party strong in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective Minister, admired across the spectrum. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this sad hour. Om Shanti." Suresh Angadi died in AIIMS due to Covid.
 
Prez, V-P mourn death of Suresh Angadi
 
New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday expressed shock over the death of Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi who died of Coronavirus complications at AIIMS Hospital here.
 
In a condolence message, the President described Angadi as "an amiable leader who worked tirelessly for the people of his constituency, Belagavi and Karnataka.""With his indomitable spirit, he carried out public service with humility and perseverance. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the loved ones," the message said.
 
Mr Naidu, condoling the death said Angadi was "a people's leader who strove for the uplift of the downtrodden". He offered condolences to the bereaved family members.
 
 
Nadda, Goyal, Sitharaman, Pradhan, Prasad condole Angadi's passing away
 
New Delhi: BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda and Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and Ravi Shankar Prasad condoled the demise of Minister of State Suresh Chennabasappa Angadi on Wednesday.
 
In his tweet, Mr Nadda said, ''Extremely saddened by the passing away of Central Minister Shri Suresh Angadi Ji. He was a remarkable leader who dedicated all his life for organisation and went on to serve society with utmost diligence and compassion. My thoughts and Prayers are with his family and followers.''
 
 
Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Goyal, also the Railway Minister  expressed his condolences.
 
 
''Deeply anguished at the unfortunate demise of Suresh Angadi ji. He was like my brother. Words fall short to describe his commitment & dedication towards the people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this hour of need. Om Shanti.''
 
He also tagged a picture with him, both smiling broadly.
 
Finance Minister, Ms Sitharaman wrote, ''Hard to believe that Minister Suresh Angadi is no more. Painstaking at work, amiable and sincere, he was a valued colleague who shall be greatly missed.''
 
 
Petroleum Minister, Mr Pradhan said, ''Shocked and saddened to learn about the passing away of Shri Suresh Angadi ji. Unbelievable that our colleague is no more with us. A veteran leader and a gem of a person, his demise is a huge loss to the people of Karnataka and the Party. My sincerest condolences.''
 
 
 
Minister for Communications and IT, Law and Justice, Mr Prasad  tweeted, ''Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of my colleague in the Union Council of Ministers Shri Suresh Angadi Ji. He was a humble and soft spoken person and an effective Minister. My profound condolences to his family. Om Shanti''.
 
Angadi became the first union minister to die of Coronavirus complications at the AIIMS, where he was being treated, hospital sources said.
 
Amit Shah mourns demise of Suresh Angadi
New Delhi:Expressing grief over the demise of Minister of States for Railway Suresh Angadi on Wednesday evening, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that he was deeply pained to learn about his death and conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
 
Taking to twitter, he said "Deeply pained to learn about the passing away of MoS Railways and senior BJP leader from Karnataka, Shri Suresh Angadi ji. He will always be remembered for his selfless service to the nation and party. 
 
My deepest condolences are with his family. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti, he further said in his tweet message.MoS Railway and senior BJP  leader of Karnataka Suresh Angadi was admitted to the hospital after he was detected with Covid 19 earlier this month and was symptomatic at that point  of time. 
 
Union Home Ministry has decided that the national flag will be flown half mast on 24 September in all Government offices in Delhi as a mark of respect for the departed leader.(UNI)
