Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh shunted out, replaced with Hemant Nagrale

Mumbai:The Maharashtra government on Wednesday shunted out city police commissioner Param Bir Singh and replaced him with current Director-General of Police Hemant Nagrale, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh announced.Senior IPS officer Rajnish Sheth has been entrusted with additional responsibility of DGP, while Mr Singh will be posted as head of the Home Guards.
The latest developments came after a massive tug-of-war between the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi allies of Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress in the past over two weeks after a sports utility vehicle laden with unassembled explosive materials was found abandoned near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.
 
The situation turned grim with the subsequent death of a Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran, the arrest and suspension of a police official Sachin Vaze and the belligerent Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party demanding the scalp of Mr Singh and others.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday informed that Indian Police Service officer Hemant Nagrale was appointed as the new Commissioner of Police of Mumbai city.
 
Mr Nagrale's predecessor Parambir Singh was transferred and posted as Director General Home Guard, the Minister said in a tweet.
 
The Mumbai police had been recently in news after an assistant police inspector Sachin Waze was arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA), in connection with its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house.(UNI)
