Mumbai:Congress high command on Friday appointed former Maharashtra state assembly speaker Nana Patole as President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Mr Patole on Thursday resigned as assembly speaker after meeting with party high command.
Maharashtra Congress has got an aggressive face in the form of Mr Patole.
Earlier, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat held the post of the state Congress president.
In 2014, Nana Patole won the Lok Sabha election from Bhandara-Gondia constituency on a BJP ticket.After differences with BJP leaders, Mr Patole had returned to the Congress.
He was contested unsuccessfully 2019 Lok Sabha election from Nagpur constituency against heavy weight and present union transport minister Nitin Gadkari.However, he won assembly elections held the same year and was made assembly speaker after Mahavikas Aghadi government came to power in the state.(UNI)
