nCoV India: Cases near 25000-mark, 57 die in single day

New Delhi: India, on Saturday,  recorded the biggest jump in single-day toll as the dreaded novel Coronavirus claimed 57 lives in past 24 hours, surging the death toll to 775 with total number of cases mounting to 24,506.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family welfare data, there is an improvement in the number of cured and discharged cases with the figure for now resting at 5062.
 
Despite such alarming figures, there was a slight dip in fresh cases reported in last 24 hours. The cases recorded were 1429, slightly less than 1,684 registered a day before. Active COVID cases in the country at present stand at 18,668.
 
Maharashtra continues to be at top among the maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country, The state has so far witnessed 301 fatalities. Capital Delhi which is on third spot in number of cases is doing well to contain the virus. The city has maintained one of the best recovery rates in the country with 857 patients cured and discharged from the hospital till date.
 
Keeping in view several factors including a promise made to ease restrictions while enforcing Lockdown 2.0 and giving a push to battered economy, the Ministry of Home Affair in a late night order on Friday eased some lockdown restrictions by allowing few shops to operate in the non containment zones.(UNI)
