NGT slaps Rs 25 cr fine on Delhi Govt for failure to check pollution

New Delhi: In a strong action against the Delhi Government for its failure to curb pollution in Delhi, National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday slapped a huge penalty of Rs 25 crore on the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government .
NGT, while imposing penalty on the Delhi Government, said that this amount should be deducted from the salary of the government officials and those polluting the environment.The Authority said if the government does not pay the fine then it will be fined an additional of Rs 10 crore per month.
 
There are more than 70 petitions related to pollution in the capital before the authority on which the hearing is going on. The NGT has found that its previous orders have not been followed to prevent pollution in the capital. 
 
In Delhi, setting fire to litter is completely prohibited  . Despite this, it is common to find burning garbage in open areas in Delhi.(UNI)
